Athens (AP): The North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers opened the 2021 college football season Saturday night with a somewhat less than stellar win over the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 28-14.
After a controversial offseason quarterback controversy, senior Deon Childress won his first start at the helm of the Plover offense.
His debut was unsatisfying.
If it were a Broadway play it would be called a flop.
Shut down during intermission on opening night.
Childress completed 6 of 10 passes for 139 yards, 3 TD and 1 pick. The interception, in the Bulldog end zone, wasted a 70 yard drive in the second quarter. Two sacks of Childress early in the critical 4th quarter and a squibbed Plover punt allowed the Bulldogs to temporarily close the gap to 21-14.
Senior running back and Heisman candidate, Seth Johnson, picked up 166 yards on 23 carries.
Next week the Mobridge Maulers return to the Peach State for a showdown with second ranked Georgia Tech.
