Aggies Stun Plovers

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,

But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.

Mobridge:  The day of reckoning arrived in Mobridge on Saturday night as the second ranked Texas A&M® Aggies® clawed their way to a 25-22 upset over the top ranked North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers.

It would unfold as a classic confrontation of number one vs. number two, the Twelfth Man® vs. Plover Magic.  The numbers would prevail.

As usual, the Plovers struck early with a 64 yard touchdown pass from Theo Cannon to wide out Jimmy Callahan.  Unexplainably, ワイルドシング shanked the conversion kick making the score 6-0.

Meg Thatcher had the Aggies and 7 points

On the next possession for the Plovers, Cannon was totally ineffective prompting Head Football Coach and Chancellor, Gomer S Blake to bench him in favor of reserve quarterback Rich Hooker. The senior from Hooker, TX would finish the game at the Plover helm.

The Aggies® would come roaring back, tallying 2 touchdowns before the end of the first quarter to take a 14-6 lead.  Aggie® quarterback Johnny® Mason connected with tight end Kevin Alexander for a 9 yard TD pass and scampered 6 yards for the second touchdown of the quarter.

The second quarter would belong to the Plovers, scoring 10 points on an 11 yard Hooker to Callahan pass and a 24 yard ワイルドシング field goal.  The half would end with the Plovers leading 16-14.

The Aggies® would regain the lead early in the 3rd quarter with a 35 yard field goal.  Norcentral would counter with another Hooker to Callahan strike to end the stanza with the Plovers clinging to a 22-17 lead.  ワイルドシング missed his second conversion of the night.

It was all over but the whining when Aggie® quarterback Johnny ® Mason hit Charlie Parks for a score with less than a minute left on the clock.  The Aggies® lead of 25-22 would stand up as the Plover’s ワイルドシング was wide right on a 24 yard field goal that would have put the game into overtime if successful as time expired.

Coach Gomer had nothing to say after the game.

Next week the Plovers host Stanford.
