Miami Gardens (AP): On Saturday night the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers bagged yet another National Championship with a convincing 29-7 win over Navy.
The 120 or so socially distanced fans at Hard Rock Stadium were expecting fireworks but were instead treated to 1960’s throwback football with tough rushing and only an occasional pass.
As expected, Navy brought their triple option offense and found some success early in the game. On their first possession they drove to the Plover 12 yard line before fumbling away. In the second quarter they would find success, catching the Plovers with 8 in the box with a quick pass that was good for 61 yards and a TD.
But that would be all the Midshipmen’s success on offense as the Mobridge Mauler defense shut them down.
The Plovers also emphasized the run but with much more success. RB Seth Johnson picked up 128 yards on 19 carries but no scores. The star of the game would be junior FB Charlie Browning. Browning picked up a mere 12 yards on 5 carries but those were good for 3 TD and a 2 point conversion.
QB John Flowers picked up 138 yards and a TD with 6 completions on 7 tosses.
Earlier in the week, Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life) Gomer S. Blake was awarded Coach of the Year for his leadership of the Freaking Plovers. After the game he was too busy polishing his trophy to talk with us.
Meanwhile, persons with knowledge of the matter have indicated that the NCAA has intensified its probe into alleged violations at Norcentral. Also, it is rumored that Plover Nation will be declared a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
