Plovers Slip By Sooners

Mobridge (AP): Good news arrived for Plover Nation on Saturday afternoon as the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers clinched a trip to the BI6 Conference Championship with a 21-10 win over the Sooners of Oklahoma.

Turnovers were significant in the game. Leading 7-0 late in the second quarter, the Plovers had driven deep into Sooner territory and appeared destined to score. It was not to be as Plover RB Seth Johnson fumbled at the Sooner 4 yard line. The Sooners returned it 48 yards, setting up a last second field goal to close the gap to 7-3 Plovers at half time.

The Sooners took the second half kickoff and were on a drive that would take the lead until the Plovers intercepted at the 11.

Johnson would carry the ball 30 times picking up 144 yards. QB John Flowers completed 5 of 7 passing for 174 yards and 2 TDs.

During his post game press conference, Plover Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake was clearly unhappy with Johnson.

“Seth needs to learn that the football is precocious, precocious as a tiny baby. He must always protect it. Let’s win!”

After a week off, the Mobridge Maulers travel to Houston, Tx. to face the 4th ranked Alabama Crimson Tide for the BI6 title and a likely trip to the National Championship Game.
