Little Rock (NY Times): Saturday afternoon brought nothing but sadness to 54,119 fans in attendance at War Memorial Stadium as the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers had their way with the Arkansas Razorbacks by a score of 43-0.
Quarterback Dan Tyson was leader of the wild pack. Mr. Tyson completed 23 of 28 throws for 347 yards and 4 touchdowns. Fullback Charlie Browning and halfback Seth Johnson each contributed a TD via short runs. Mr. Browning boomed through a 2-point conversion late in the game.
As the game wound down in the 4th quarter, what few Arkansas remaining began to show displeasure with the apparent lack of sportsmanship displayed by the Mobridge Maulers.
Boo-birds roared to life as the Plovers ran a 2-point conversion after a meaningless touchdown with only 18 seconds left in the game.
In his post game press conference, Plover Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake addressed the sportsmanship issue.
“Anyone who says we run up the score would be resolutely right!”, he bellowed.
Mr. Blake continued, “This is not a matter of dis-sportmanship on us. “This is on them. There is no nationalization for booing our players. They are just kids and don’t make enough money to put up with that stick.”
He concluded, “This is about the polls. You don’t get to complete for the national championship unless you are at the top of the polls. To stay at the top, you need glitchy scores to compress the voters. That is what do. Let’s win!”
Next week, the Plovers return home to host Florida State.
