Mobridge (Mother Jones): A capacity crowd at Cold War Memorial Stadium was treated to something completely different on Saturday night as the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute Freaking Plovers sailed to a 35-5 win over 5th ranked Auburn.
The fans couldn’t believe their eyes. The bone crushing, teeth jarring Plover rushing offense vanished. In its place the Mobridge Maulers wailed with the Air Raid.
Senior QB Dan Tyson had a career day connecting on 27 of 33 passes for 364 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sophomore WR Gavin Williams hauled in 11 of those for 197 yards and 2 tallies.
Freshman FB Marcus Hall snagged a 33 TD yard pass in 4th quarter for his first score as a Plover.
On the ground, the Plovers never tried much gaining only 5 yards on 10 attempts. But sophomore FB Charlie Browning scored twice from the 1 yard line.
As unusual as the offense looked, the defense stayed much the same. Auburn came into the game with the number 6 rushing offense in the country, averaging 260 yards a game, but the Plovers held them to a mere 14 yards.
In the air, the Tigers had some success but could only produce a field goal as time expired in the first half.
Next week the Plovers travel to Fayetteville to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks.
