Plovers Regain National Championship

Miami Gardens, FL: North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) returned to the National Championship game after a one-year absence and took it by storm. The Freaking Plovers demolished the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by a score of 35-7 in front of 80,119 fans at Joe Robbie Pro Player Dolphins Land Shark Sun Life Hard Rock Stadium

The Mobridge Mauler defense held the top ranked Tech rushing offense, which had averaged 312 yards per game over the season, to a mere 70 yards on 29 carries. Tech turned the ball over 4 times via fumbles.

The Tech passing game was unable to pick up the slack suffering 5 sacks and only 62 yards through the air.

On the other side of the ball, the only thing that could stop Plover offense was quarterback J. P. Richardson. The departing senior from Jennings, MO tossed two costly interceptions.

The first, in the second quarter, was an errant throw in the end zone just 2 plays after the Plover defense had recovered a Tech fumble at the 12-yard line. The second was an ill-advised screen intended for halfback Kyle McDonald that resulted in a 56-yard pick six late in the fourth stanza.

Kyle McDonald scampers for 19 yards on the opening play of the game.

Norcentral Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake, had a lot to say in his post-game press conference.

“Well folks, we’re back. The National Championship is ours again. Let’s win!”, he bellowed. “As I have always said, the Plovers are all about championships. It’s what we do. Let’s win!

I am always an optometrist about things so let’s talk about the defense first. I was proud of our defense today. They held the best rushing offense in the country to only 70 yards, that was stupendous. And big linebacker Steve Johnson got himself four sacks. Let’s win!

I can’t say enough about our offensive line. They were blowing open groping holes for Kyle all day and protected Richardson. Let’s win!

Speaking of Richardson, he’s a senior and he’ll be leaving us. I hope the screen door bangs him on the nose on his way out. Good remittance! Let’s win! He has not protected the ball like we teach. The two picks today were prophetic. Let’s win! He cost us 14 points!”
