Los Angeles, CA (AP) — Northcentral South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) flanker Kyle Powell was stunning Saturday afternoon. The sophomore from Crane, TX racked up 162 yards receiving and three touchdowns to help the No. 1 Freaking Plovers overpower the Trojans of USC. The Plover offense returned to form with 421 total yards after an uninspiring performance last week at LSU. The offensive reserves led by quarterback Dan Tyson and halfback Lawrence Cook scored late in the game in mop up duty.
The Plover defense did its job as well, putting together another solid performance limiting the Trojans to 10 points on 196 yards of total offense. Senior cornerback Lance Atkins picked off a Trojan pass in the second quarter, setting up and easy score.
With the win, the Mobridge Maulers™ avenge their season squandering loss last year at home against these same Trojans.
In other news, the highly anticipated “Game of the Century” next week between the Plovers and second ranked Oregon has been spoiled. The Ducks lost this afternoon 31-29 to the unranked Texas Longhorns.
Plover interception sets up a 2nd quarter TD
During his post-game press conference, Norcentral Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life) Gomer S. Blake seemed very happy with his team.
“I’m very pleased with the way our offense resounded from last week’s prophetic preformance. Let’s win!”, he bellowed. “I am looking forward to the bailiwick with Oregon next week. Let’s win!”
