Baton Rouge (Washington Post): According to an informed source, a record crowd of 102,322 boisterous fans packed Tiger Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University expecting to see offensive fireworks between their Tigers and the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers. Another informed source wishing to remain anonymous told The Post that they were displeased as the Plovers trudged to a 21-0 win.
The high-powered Plover offense simply never found a groove. Norcentral’s offense, averaging 42 points per game, was held by the Tiger’s to a record low of 14. This was the first game in their long and storied history that the Plovers failed to score in the first quarter.
The Plovers sputtered to a total offense of 252 yards. Quarterback J.P. Richardson completed 7 of 11 passes for 108 yards and one score. Halfback Kyle McDonald plodded for 140 yards on 23 carries with one TD.
An unnamed person leaving the stadium reported that the Plover fans were elated with the performance of their defense. The Plovers held the Tigers to a miserly -4 yards rushing and junior linebacker Jim Vinson provided the highlight of the day when he snatched an errant Tiger pass and returned it 66 yards to the house in the second quarter.
Vinson takes it to the house in the second quarter.
According to a person close to the Plover coaching staff, Norcentral Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake left the stadium in a state of deep depression and refused to speak to reporters.
Next week, the Plovers continue on the road visiting The University of Southern California.
