MOBRIDGE, SD (AP) — The North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers have suspended projected starting cornerbacks Lance Atkins and Sean Marks for the first three games of the upcoming football season.
The team announced the suspension Thursday, saying it was for a violation of team rules. The team didn’t publicly specify the nature of the violation.
Atkins is a senior with eight career starts. He emerged from spring practices as the projected starter after the departure of four-year starter John Wolford.
Marks is a redshirt sophomore who played in three games last year, including the Plovers’ Orange Bowl victory over Wake Forest.
In a statement, Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake said the players “made poor decisions and they take responsibility for their actions. Let’s win!” (Editor’s note: Those are not the actual words he used, we had to clean it up a bit for publication.)
Norcentral opens at home on Aug. 30, hosting the Boise State Bronchos.
