Lincoln (AP): On Saturday night the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers renewed their quest for some BCS love. They did so at the expense of the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a score of 35-14
Running back Jim May led the charge with 21 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns. J. P. Richardson chipped in 219 yards through the air with two tallies.
It was a long night for sophomore kicker Anthony Moss. Moss misfired on two extra point tries in the first half, leading to a mere 6 point lead for the Plovers at the intermission.
The Plover defense had an ordinary night considering past performances. They held the Huskers to a mere 9 yards rushing but could only contain them to 241 yards passing. Key stops in the red zone held the Huskers to two field goals in the first half.
Norcentral Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake spoke to reporters at his post-game press conference. “Well, it wasn’t very impressive, but a win is a win. Let’s win!”
He continued, “I like the way our defense played. Let’s win! Now let’s talk about special teams, pacifically our kicker. He needs to start punching those extra points through or we will be sending him back to Kansas. Let’s win!”
The win was enough for the Plovers to step up two notches in the BCS to number 7.
Next week it’s Norcentral’s Homecoming game featuring conference foe, Texas.
