Fayetteville (AP): Variety proved to be the spice of life for the North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers as they roasted the Arkansas Razorbacks 35-0 before 76,001 fans on Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Two young Plover quarterbacks got their baptism under fire against the Hogs. Sophomore Dan Tyson emerged as a serious contender for the starting slot held by junior J. P. Richardson. He completed all 4 of his tosses for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns. Richardson, though, wasn’t giving up the top spot without a fight, completing 5 of 8 for 129 yards and one score.
Things were not so rosy for freshman quarterback Deon Childress. His late in the fourth quarter debut as a Freaking Plover resulted in an Arkansas interception at the Razorback 30-yard line.
During his post-game press conference, Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake displayed pleasure with his team’s performance. “We played extremely well tonight. Let’s win!”, he commented. “We had a chance to put some fresh faces in the game to get experience under the fire. Speaking of Deon (QB Childress) he’s young, he’s a freshman, he is after all, an almond in the rough. We have high expectorations for him in the coming years. Let’s win!”
Next week the Freaking Plovers host the Florida Gators in the first annual Coach Gomer Do Rag Giveaway event.
