Plovers Tame Penn State

Mobridge (Reuters):  The North Central South Dakota Polytechnic Institute (Norcentral) Freaking Plovers came to Happy Valley with chips on their shoulders and a point to prove.  Mission accomplished as the second ranked Plovers lashed the number three Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 35-7 before a record 110,754 fans at Beaver Stadium.

The Thrilling Trio of Jim May (11 carries for 98 yards and 2 TD), Kyle McDonald (11 for 86, 1TD), and Lawrence Cook (7 for 58, 1 TD) rushed for 242 yards.  Quarterback J. P. Richardson’s play improved significantly over last week completing 7 of 8 passes for 96 yards, 1 TD and no picks.  Sophomore quarterback Dan Tyson went 3 for 3 and 11 yards in fourth quarter mop up duty.

Penn State’s lone score came late in the first half as they drove 82 yards for a touchdown capped by an 8-yard pass from Billy Lake to Mike Noel.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Plovers held the Nittany Lions to a stingy 1 yard rushing and 131 yards passing.  68 of those yards came on Penn State’s second quarter scoring drive.

Head Football Coach and Chancellor (for life), Gomer S. Blake was practically gushing during his post-game press conference.  “I am extremely pleased with our performance today.  Overall, this was much better than last week.  Let’s win!  Jim, Kyle and Lawrence were excellent at grinding out the yards and eating the clock.  Jim did cough up the football once on our second drive but he really took a hit that completely discombobbleheaded him.  We held him out of the game for a while to do our percussion management thing to make sure he was ok.  Let’s win!”

Blake continued, “(quarterback) J. P. had a much better day today than last week.  He was effective when we needed to make a pass play work and he protected the ball well.  The ball is our family, our baby.  We must protect our baby at all costs.  Let’s win!”

Next week the Plovers return to Mobridge to host The University of Alabama Birmingham in Norcentral’s home opener for 2017.
